The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is a leading blood cancer nonprofit that provides free education and resources for people impacted by blood cancer. To complement their resources for pediatric survivors and their families, the Patient Services team identified a need for a handbook to support school staff who have children re-entering school during or after cancer treatment. The handbook covers all aspects of a child's return to school, from navigating education accommodations to handling side effects to coping with the emotional impact of cancer.
The design prioritizes accessibility, readability, featuring large text and clearly organized sections. It is also designed to be a functional handbook, with an appendix that includes perforated hall passes, practical checklists, and pages for notes. The visual playful visual elements like line drawings and simple shapes complement photos of real pediatric survivors and their families who have been supported by LLS.
